Hi! I’m Angela and I really look forward to joining you on your adventure to learning to crochet. I have been crocheting for over 30 years. My grandmother taught me when I was 8 years old. We started out crocheting slippers because that’s what she knew how to make. I’m not sure how many pairs of slipper I made, but I think everyone in the family had several pairs!
School got busy, and I put my yarn and hook down to focus on my books. I went to college and received my BSN in Nursing and became a Pediatric nurse (and later a Lactation Consultant). Then my babies came along. I picked my yarn and crochet hook back up and created special handmade blankets for each of them.
After 5 babies and LOTS of baby blankets, I began designing my own crochet patterns. I designed baby blankets, but also boot cuffs, scarves, shawls, ponchos, and much more. I fell in love with designing crochet! (See Little Monkeys Design for my crochet patterns). My patterns have been published in Happily Hooked Magazine, Pattern Pack Pro, Crochet World, and Interweave Crochet Magazine. I’ve also become a member of the Crochet Guild of America and other professional crochet organizations.
As you can imagine, I always carry my current crochet project with me when I go places. Often people will ask me what I’m making, and comment, “That is gorgeous! I sure wish I knew how to do that!” So the homeschool mom in me decided that I could teach crochet too!
Over the past years I have taught people of all ages to crochet. Young girls like to start out simple and make fun small projects. Teen and college age girls are usually wanting to learn to crochet accessories like jewelry, scarves, or boot cuffs. I’ve taught several new moms-to-be and grandmas to crochet baby blankets, hats, sweaters, and more. There’s even been a few boys in my classes over the past years. Anyone can crochet!
I don’t just teach my students to crochet. Along the way I like to teach about picking out out the proper yarn for their projects. Some yarns are better for a certain type of project than other yarns. I educate my crochet students on the different hook choices and sizes and what’s best for them. Along the way they also learn how to keep their projects looking beautiful for years to come, and many other tips that add to their crochet skills. Learning to crochet is not just about learning the basic crochet stitches and a few fancy options!
Sometimes there just isn’t enough time in the day. To meet the needs of those who would like to learn to crochet but don’t have time or opportunity to attend a class in person, I have created the Beginning Crochet Course – a 10 module, step by step, easy to follow online crochet course. You can learn on your own time schedule and at your own pace. Some students finish the course in a few weeks, others take their time, perfecting their crochet skills, and complete the course over a few months.
In the Beginning Crochet course you will learn the basic crochet stitches and create beautiful projects with those new stitch skills. You will then go on to learn some more advance crochet skills to make your projects look professional. By the end of the Beginning Crochet course you will be a very accomplished crocheter! Along the way, you can ask questions, get support, and show off your crochet projects (or new yarn stash!) in our private Facebook group.
It’s the best of both worlds – access to a step-by-step system to learn the skill of crocheting on your own time and at your own pace and a community of support along the way. Details are below and you can contact me if you have any questions along the way.
I am so very excited to join you on your adventure to learning to crochet! Together we can create beautiful handmade items for yourself and gifts for others!
